The North Norfolk Railway is celebrating a significant achievement following its recognition at this year’s Heritage Railway Association Awards in Newcastle.

With a series of accolades under its belt, the heritage line is set for an exciting new season.

Heritage Rail Awards: A Night to Remember

At the prestigious event, the North Norfolk Railway received widespread recognition. The ceremony, which attracted a record number of entries, showcased the exceptional standards within the heritage railway sector.

Hannah Drury: The Rising Star

The highlight of the evening was East Anglian star Hannah Drury, who was honoured with the “Rising Star” award. Reserved for industry newcomers who have already made a significant impact, Hannah’s contributions since joining in 2022 have been pivotal. Her work in developing railway events and enhancing the cost-effectiveness of the line’s marketing has led to her rapid promotion into the Senior Management Group.

Accolades Across the Board

In addition to Hannah’s personal achievement, the Poppy Line was also Highly Commended in several key categories:

• Station of the Year
• Railway of the Year
• Innovation of the Year – Recognised for establishing a new Peer Support Group

General Manager’s Reflections

General Manager Graham Hukins expressed his pride and satisfaction:

“It is wonderful that Hannah’s progress and hard work has been recognised on a national stage – her award is very well deserved. We are also delighted to have been Highly Commended in a further three categories, including Railway of the Year. The awards attracted a record number of entries this year and it was clear from the ceremony that the standard was exceptionally high, so this is a real accolade for our fantastic team of volunteers and staff.”

These accolades are a testament to the dedication and innovation of the team.

New Season Kick-Off and Celebrations

Looking ahead, the heritage line is gearing up for a season full of exciting events. From February 15–23, during the half-term break, the Poppy Line will host a triple celebration. The festivities include:

• Celebrating the 100th birthday of locomotive 53089.
• A preservation “first” with the launch of a newly recreated “lightweight” heritage railcar—a nod to the 1950s era.
• Marking the railway’s 50th anniversary with special events planned throughout the season.

Upcoming Schedule and Booking Details

Following the half-term celebrations, the popular steam trains will operate on Sundays throughout March. The main 2025 season will commence on April 5 and continue on most days until November 2. Advance booking is strongly recommended for half-term activities, with a generous 15% discount available on fares.
