Details

Presented by the Masuda String Puppeteers Association

A wonderful opportunity to experience the beautiful and intricate work of traditional Japanese string puppetry. Incredibly detailed puppets, some with up to 18 strings are controlled by highly skilled puppeteers who must train for at least 5 years before they are able to perform. The Masuda String Puppeteers from Shimane Prefecture, Japan are believed to be the only group still performing in the classic Edo Period style.

The afternoon show will be a slightly shorter, family friendly performance, whilst the evening performance will show off a bit more of the puppeteer’s skill and techniques.

The performance will be in different parts, with short, lighthearted skits bookending a scene from a famous traditional Japanese puppet story and an extra skill display in the evening.
