Details

Adam’s recent book, A Brief History of Everyone Who Ever Lived, takes us from Neanderthals to murder, from redheads to race, dead kings to plague, evolution to epigenetics, as he gives us a new portrait of who we are and how we came to be.

Sex, death, murder, disease, warfare, invasion, migration and famine. Of all the historical texts available to us, none is richer than the one we carry inside every cell. In the last few years, we have made extraordinary progress in our ability to read and understand DNA in the living, and to wheedle it out of people who may well have been dead for tens of thousands of years. Only now are we re-painting the picture of the human story, using a unique combination of archaeology, history, art and our genomes. DNA is the saga of how we came to be who we are today.

Dr. Adam Rutherford is a science writer and broadcaster who presents BBC Radio 4’s flagship science programme, Inside Science. He also presents many documentaries, on the inheritance of intelligence, on MMR and autism, human evolution, astronomy and art, science and cinema, scientific fraud, and the evolution of sex.

Programmes include The Beauty of Anatomy, Horizon: Playing God, The Gene Code and the award-winning The Cell, as well as the podcast The Curious Cases of Rutherford and Fry, and regular appearances on the Infinite Monkey Cage.
